Vintage Stork Club ashtrays are ashtrays from the famous New York nightclub which operated from the 1920s until the 1960s.

Background

The Stork Club was an exclusive New York nightclub established by owner Sherman Billingsley, renowned for its wealthy, famous and powerful clientele. Its patrons ranged from Hollywood stars such as Marilyn Monroe, Judy Garland and Elizabeth Taylor to political figures such as John F. Kennedy and J. Edgar Hoover, along with a number of writers including J.D Salinger and Ernest Hemmingway.

Throughout the years the club’s ashtrays were notorious for being stolen by the clientele as souvenirs. When Billingsley noticed their regular disappearance, he had a number of them boxed up along with a book of branded matches and sent as gifts to many of the club’s regulars.

How much are vintage Stork Club ashtrays worth?

Stork Club ashtrays have been popular collector’s items for years, but there are a large number of fake examples on the market.

Authentic examples can sell for between $50 and $150 on auction sites such as eBay.
