Vintage Red Crown Gasoline advertising signs are highly collectible US items of advertising, automobilia and petroliana. “Vintage” refers to pieces manufactured within the last 100 years and can include items made as recently as the 1980s.

Background

The two-sided porcelain signs were designed to advertise Standard Oil Co.’s Red Crown Gasoline range.

The most collectible versions were produced in the 1920s and are circular in nature, with the words “Red Crown Gasoline” encircling a red crown.

Two versions were made prior to 1927, the earliest green border variety was followed by a blue-bordered version.

Later, rectangular examples from the gasoline’s 1941 to 1961 incarnation can also be found although these are less in demand among collectors.
