1981 Budweiser Holiday stein

The 1981 Budweiser Holiday stein is a commemorative beer stein produced by the company Budweiser as a Christmas gift in 1981.

Background

Budweiser holiday steins were first released in 1980, and proved immediately successful with collectors. They have annually issued a different design ever since, which were manufactured in Brazil by the company Ceramarte until 2009. The newest steins are now produced by the Chinese manufacturer BRAX Ltd.

1981 stein details and value

The 1981 holiday stein measures 6 ½”, and features an image of a wagon with eight horses travelling through a snowy forest. The stein is entitled ‘Snow Covered Birch Trees’, and is often refered to by collectors as the ‘snowy woodland’ stein or the ‘birch trees’ stein.

There are two different variations of the stein; in the image a horse-drawn wagon is showed loaded with cases, which appear as either red (CS50) or green (CS50A). Green case steins are rarer, and there are fakes where the red cases have been painted green on the market. On these examples, the green colour is usually far darker than it appears on genuine examples.

The 1981 stein is the most sought after of all the Budweiser holiday steins for collectors. Depending on condition, it can sell from around $80 up to $200.
