In the late 70s, you could send away for a Palitoy for a free Star Wars action figure, which you paid for with gold tokens that you got from buying other Star Wars figures. Then many weeks later an anonymous box would arrive with your free figure in it. Amazingly, one collector had the restraint to not open his for the best part of 40 years, leaving the identity of the character in the box a mystery. The current owner bought the boxed figure for £5. An X-ray scan revealed the mystery- not the £5,000 Boba Fett with working jetpack they'd hoped for, but instead a £30 Emperor Palpatine.
