Mean Gene Okerlund action figure
Mean Gene Okerlund was the baddest cat in the late night middle to heavy weight gun-dog class of wrestling back in the early 80s. Known as "The Shrug", his act was based on a slapstick routine about him pretending to be a waiter in a high class restaurant, looking for the diner that had just asked for the pepper mill.
For the entire round he would fight with his back towards his opponent, pretending not to realise he was there, while sprinkling pepper on members of the audience and occasionally dealing blows to his opponent by turning around too quickly while carrying a plank of wood over his shoulder or by knocking him into the crowd after pretending to slip on a piece of freshly dropped tartar sauce. He would then look around to see where his opponent had gone before dealing an over the top shrug signifying the end of that round.
Though he should have had a huge career, Gene stayed humble to his roots, electing only to wrestle in airports to entertain people waiting in the arrivals lounge after a flight had been delayed. £35.
