The Kenner Star Wars Yak Face action figure is a collectible action figure made by Kenner in the mid-1980s.

The figure is based on a character known as Saelt-Marae in what is now regarded as the sixth Star Wars movie, Return of the Jedi.

Saelt-Marae, based at Jabba the Hutt’s palace, had a very small part in the film.

Production of Yak Face

The figure was produced by Kenner. The manufacturing firm halted production of its Star Wars figures in 1985 due to declining sales. However, when the decision was made, a number of Yak Face figures had already been produced although not sold.

There are suggestions that a number of Yak Faces, along with other Star Wars figures, were destroyed by Kenner.

Overseas sales

Those figures that remained in existence were sent to Europe, Canada and Australia and quickly became collectors’ items, especially in the US, where they were especially difficult to locate.

Yak Face was packaged on an English and French Power of the Force card for sale in Canada. Some of these were also sent to Australia.

In Europe, Yak Face was packaged on an English, French and Spanish Trilogo card, mostly without a weapon. Those figures that didn't sell in Europe were sold back to stores in the US.

A good condition Yak Face can change hands for significant sums of money, especially when combined with its original card.

Prices vary hugely depending on condition. Below is a rough guide:

  • Loose figure: $60-120
  • Trilogo carded figure: $300-600
  • Power of the Force carded figure: $1,000-3,000
